Hello all Booster/SIP friends!!
I’m Julia Brzezinska. I’m taking part in a SIDA funded youth exchange called YPD. In short it’s a culture exchange between Sweden and Cambodia. It
s six months of your life, three in Cambodia and three in Sweden. Now I’ve just finished part one in Cambodia and are in the beginning of the second part here in Sweden at Booster. During the whole time you live, eat, sleep and work together with a counterpart. Mine is Monica Soy, she’s from Cambodia. So what do we do?
We are volunteers, we live in host families, we plan and run our own projects associated with HIV/Aids. So now I’m (and Monica) in Växjö and I will be working for Booster with some projects for the next two months.
When I don’t do this I’m probably rushing around in Stockholm where I’m born and raised. I study at the University of Stockholm and after this programme I’m kind of homeless. Apartments in Stockholm are NOT growing on trees. But after joining YPD I’ve become more flexible in that point. We’ve been travelling around Cambodia a lot the last three months, sleeping in strange surroundings, on the floor, with small interesting insects and so on…. So moving around with my plastic bags is quite ok. But at the moment here in Växjö I stay in a lovely host family. I and Monica live in a big yellow house on Söder, Växjö. It’s what you call “kollektiv” in Swedish. It’s really a new experience not only for Monica but for me too. We’re like a big family at “Sämjan”, eating dinner together every night, everyone has their task and I’m in charge of the kitchen. What else? We eat only vegetarian food, recycle all the garbage, using solar energy, growing our own vegetables in the summer, we have a collective car that anyone can borrow. It’s really nice, you never feel lonely, why having only one brother when you can get more? But sure, having one father and mother is just enough.
I guess I’ll be writing here again, soon, telling you about our activities here at Booster.
So long!
/julia
